What is MICRODERMABRASION?

In the words of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), microdermabrasion is a peeling technique "with minimal risk of dyspigmentation or scarring that is achieved by projecting aluminum crystals onto the skin". These ultra-fine crystals gently exfoliate the stratum corneum, the upper, horny levels of the skin. Unlike chemical peels and laser resurfacing, it is "safe for all skin types".

Microdermabrasion is the most frequently performed skin treatment in the U.S. today and, previously, was only available in salons, spas and medical suites.

Microdermabrasion attributes:

1. Tried and Tested. Safely used in Europe for more than a decade in over 1000 European treatment centers.

2. Employs abrasive crystals, a wholly inert substance that, unlike chemical peels, does not risk allergic reactions.

3. Unlike dermabrasion or laser peeling, an all-or-nothing single process, microdermabrasion is a progressive treatment with a capacity to sustain and continue improvements. The results of surgery gradually degrade; over time microdermabrasion stimulates collagen and elastin production, causes new cellular growth and enhanced blood flow.

4. Safe for pigmented skins (unlike other professional peeling treatments) .

5. No discomfort : it can actually be relaxing, especially when combined with gentle, pre-treatment massage.

6. No healing time : the skin soon looks healthy and vibrant.

7. No need for dressings or camouflage make-up.

8. Little risk of irritation, minimized further by appropriate post-treatment skin care.

9. No anesthetic necessary. The sensation is like rubbing a rough cloth over the skin or like a cat lick ! Crystal residue feels like the sand you bring back on your skin and clothes after a day at the beach.

10. Very high level of control over the depth of exfoliation achieved (unlike chemical peeling) and therefore over the results.

11. Convenience. Treatments can be performed more quickly than other forms of professional skin peeling, even during your lunch hour at work.

12. Cheaper yet extremely effective!
